eSIM Azerbaijan: what you get

Networks
Azercell 4G, Bakcell 5G
Speed
Up to 5G where the network has it, 4G elsewhere
Where your traffic comes out
United Kingdom. Websites see you there, not in the country you are visiting; streaming catalogues and apps that check your location go by that address.
After the daily allowance
A Daily Unlimited pass slows to 384 Kbps, 512 Kbps, or 1 Mbps until the next day. It is never cut off. How daily passes work
Top-ups
Add data to the same eSIM later, with no new QR code. A Daily Unlimited pass is bought for its full number of days and cannot be extended.
Buying ahead
Install any time within 180 days of purchase. For most plans the days start counting on the first connection at the destination, not at checkout.
Calls and SMS
Data only, with no phone number. Call over a messenger; a service that verifies you by SMS cannot reach this eSIM.

Azerbaijan: the 30 days a local SIM gives your phone

Azerbaijan registers the IMEI of phones that use its networks with a local SIM. A handset brought into the country works for 30 days after its first use with an Azerbaijani operator; after that it has to be registered, for a fee, or its IMEI is blocked. The operators state the exception plainly: a phone using a foreign operator's SIM in international roaming is not registered. A roaming eSIM is that phone.

Coverage is strong in Baku and on the Absheron peninsula, good in Ganja, Sheki, Gabala and along the roads between them. In the Greater Caucasus — Xinaliq, the trails above Quba, the passes — the signal is limited to the villages. The table above lists the networks this eSIM uses.

The eSIM carries data only, with no Azerbaijani number. Bolt is the usual taxi app in Baku and registers with a foreign number; card payment is routine in the capital and less so in the regions.

Which plan for which trip

Messengers and maps are light. Video, calls and a laptop on a hotspot are what use data up.

How to install it

  1. 01

    Check your phone

It has to take an eSIM and must not be locked to a carrier. Does your phone support eSIM?

  2. 02

    Scan the QR code

After payment the QR code is on your order page. Scan it in the phone's settings — at home, over Wi-Fi.

  3. 03

Switch it on when you land

Turn on data roaming for the esimker line. It finds the network by itself.

Frequently asked questions

› Do I have to register my phone in Azerbaijan?

Not with this eSIM. Registration after 30 days applies to phones using an Azerbaijani SIM; roaming on a foreign SIM is exempt.

› Is there coverage outside Baku?

In the cities and on the main roads, yes. In mountain villages such as Xinaliq it is limited, and on the trails there is often none.

› Can I stay longer than 30 days with it?

Yes. The 30-day limit is about phones on local SIM cards. This eSIM works as long as its package does.
