eSIM France: what you get
- Networks
- Orange 5G
- Speed
- Up to 5G where the network has it, 4G elsewhere
- Where your traffic comes out
- Europe. Websites see you there, not in the country you are visiting; streaming catalogues and apps that check your location go by that address.
- After the daily allowance
- A Daily Unlimited pass slows to 512 Kbps or 1 Mbps until the next day. It is never cut off. How daily passes work
- Top-ups
- Add data to the same eSIM later, with no new QR code. A Daily Unlimited pass is bought for its full number of days and cannot be extended.
- Buying ahead
- Install any time within 180 days of purchase. For most plans the days start counting on the first connection at the destination, not at checkout.
- Calls and SMS
- Data only, with no phone number. Call over a messenger; a service that verifies you by SMS cannot reach this eSIM.
France: three borders where a French plan stops
Monaco, Switzerland and Andorra are neither France nor the EU, and each of them is closer than it looks. Monaco's own network begins two streets from Beausoleil and Cap-d'Ail; Geneva airport sits on the border, and Swiss networks reach into the French side; Andorra is a day trip from Toulouse or Perpignan. A SIM from the EU left on automatic selection can attach to any of them, and that is where the roaming bills on the Riviera come from. This eSIM is prepaid and covers France: across those lines it simply stops, and it comes back when you do.
In Paris the métro and the RER have had 4G in every station and tunnel since 2020, so maps and messages keep working underground. Across the country the cities and the high-speed lines are well covered, and the gaps are the ones the French call zones blanches: the valleys of the Alps and the Pyrenees, the Massif Central, the interior of Corsica. Download the map before a hike or a mountain drive.
A French prepaid SIM has to be registered to an identity document, and the line is suspended if that is not done in time — within a month of first use at Orange. A roaming eSIM is not a French line and has nothing to register. The plan covers mainland France and Corsica; the overseas territories — Réunion, Martinique, Guadeloupe — are sold as destinations of their own. It carries data only, with no French number.
Which plan for which trip
Messengers and maps are light. Video, calls and a laptop on a hotspot are what use data up.
How to install it
- 01
Check your phone
It has to take an eSIM and must not be locked to a carrier. Does your phone support eSIM?
- 02
Scan the QR code
After payment the QR code is on your order page. Scan it in the phone's settings — at home, over Wi-Fi.
- 03
Switch it on when you land
Turn on data roaming for the esimker line. It finds the network by itself.

Frequently asked questions
› Does it work in Monaco?
No. Monaco has its own network, outside France and outside the EU's roaming rules. The eSIM goes quiet there and resumes when you are back in France.
› Is there signal in the Paris métro?
Yes. The métro and the RER have 4G in the stations and in the tunnels.
› Do I have to show ID or register the eSIM?
No. Registration is a rule for French prepaid SIMs. A roaming eSIM is not one of them.
