eSIM Philippines: what you get

Networks
Globe 5G, SMART 5G
Speed
Up to 5G where the network has it, 4G elsewhere
Where your traffic comes out
Singapore. Websites see you there, not in the country you are visiting; streaming catalogues and apps that check your location go by that address.
After the daily allowance
A Daily Unlimited pass slows to 384 Kbps, 512 Kbps, or 1 Mbps until the next day. It is never cut off. How daily passes work
Top-ups
Add data to the same eSIM later, with no new QR code. A Daily Unlimited pass is bought for its full number of days and cannot be extended.
Buying ahead
Install any time within 180 days of purchase. For most plans the days start counting on the first connection at the destination, not at checkout.
Calls and SMS
Data only, with no phone number. Call over a messenger; a service that verifies you by SMS cannot reach this eSIM.

The Philippines: SIM registration for visitors, and seven thousand islands

A Philippine SIM works only after it is registered, and for a tourist the SIM Registration Act asks for more than a passport: the page with the arrival stamp, proof of an address in the country such as a hotel booking, and a return or onward ticket, all uploaded through the operator's app. A SIM registered that way is valid for 30 days. A roaming eSIM is not a Philippine SIM: there is nothing to upload, and it lasts as long as its plan says.

There are two networks worth the name, Globe and Smart, and on the islands it is often one or the other. Travellers report Smart as the stronger in El Nido and in Basco on Batanes, Globe around Siquijor, and both in Coron town and in General Luna on Siargao — and neither out on the island-hopping boats. This eSIM can use both, as the table above shows, which is its advantage over a local SIM tied to one of them.

Typhoon season runs roughly from June to November, and a storm takes power and towers down for days at a time; keep bookings and maps offline when one is forecast. In Manila and Cebu the network is fast. The eSIM carries data only, with no Philippine number; Grab works in the big cities with the account you already have.

Which plan for which trip

Messengers and maps are light. Video, calls and a laptop on a hotspot are what use data up.

How to install it

  1. 01

    Check your phone

It has to take an eSIM and must not be locked to a carrier. Does your phone support eSIM?

  2. 02

    Scan the QR code

After payment the QR code is on your order page. Scan it in the phone's settings — at home, over Wi-Fi.

  3. 03

Switch it on when you land

Turn on data roaming for the esimker line. It finds the network by itself.

Frequently asked questions

› Do I have to register it under the SIM Registration Act?

No. The Act covers Philippine SIMs, which a tourist registers with a passport, an address and a return ticket. A roaming eSIM is outside it.

› Is there signal in El Nido, Coron and Siargao?

In the towns, yes, and the eSIM uses whichever of the two networks is there. On the boats and the outer islands it fades.

› Will it last longer than the 30 days of a tourist SIM?

It lasts as long as the plan you buy: the 30-day limit belongs to a locally registered tourist SIM, not to a roaming eSIM.
