eSIM Singapore: what you get
- Networks
- M1 5G, SingTel 5G, Starhub 4G
- Speed
- Up to 5G where the network has it, 4G elsewhere
- Where your traffic comes out
- Hong Kong or Singapore, depending on the plan. Websites see you there, wherever you actually are; streaming catalogues and apps that check your location go by that address.
- After the daily allowance
- A Daily Unlimited pass slows to 384 Kbps, 512 Kbps, or 1 Mbps until the next day. It is never cut off. How daily passes work
- Top-ups
- Add data to the same eSIM later, with no new QR code. A Daily Unlimited pass is bought for its full number of days and cannot be extended.
- Buying ahead
- Install any time within 180 days of purchase. For most plans the days start counting on the first connection at the destination, not at checkout.
- Calls and SMS
- Data only, with no phone number. Call over a messenger; a service that verifies you by SMS cannot reach this eSIM.
Singapore: signal everywhere, and two borders a short ride away
Singapore is a city covered from edge to edge, underground on the MRT included, so the questions are all at the edges. Johor Bahru, across the causeway, is Malaysia; Batam and Bintan, an hour by ferry, are Indonesia. A plan for Singapore stops at each of them. Near Woodlands and Kranji in the north a SIM left on automatic selection can attach to a Malaysian network and be billed for it; a prepaid eSIM for Singapore does not use those networks.
Depending on the plan, this eSIM's traffic comes out in Singapore or in Hong Kong — the table above lists both. It matters for one thing in particular: ChatGPT and Claude are offered in Singapore and not in Hong Kong, and on a connection that comes out there they take you for a visitor from Hong Kong and decline to open. Hotel or café Wi-Fi is the simple way round.
A tourist SIM at Changi costs from about ten Singapore dollars and is registered against your passport, three prepaid lines to a person at most. The eSIM saves the counter. It carries data only, with no Singapore number; Grab and Gojek both work with the account you already have.
Which plan for which trip
Messengers and maps are light. Video, calls and a laptop on a hotspot are what use data up.
How to install it
- 01
Check your phone
It has to take an eSIM and must not be locked to a carrier. Does your phone support eSIM?
- 02
Scan the QR code
After payment the QR code is on your order page. Scan it in the phone's settings — at home, over Wi-Fi.
- 03
Switch it on when you land
Turn on data roaming for the esimker line. It finds the network by itself.

Frequently asked questions
› Does it work in Johor Bahru, Batam or Bintan?
No. Those are Malaysia and Indonesia. For a day trip take a plan that names the country, or use Wi-Fi there.
› Why does ChatGPT say it is not available in my country?
Some plans send their traffic out through Hong Kong, where ChatGPT and Claude are not offered. On Wi-Fi in Singapore they open as usual.
› Is there signal underground on the MRT?
Yes. The stations and tunnels are covered, as is nearly all of the island.
