eSIM United Arab Emirates: what you get

Networks
Du 5G
Speed
Up to 5G where the network has it, 4G elsewhere
Where your traffic comes out
Europe. Websites see you there, not in the country you are visiting; streaming catalogues and apps that check your location go by that address.
After the daily allowance
A Daily Unlimited pass slows to 500 Kbps, 512 Kbps, or 1 Mbps until the next day. It is never cut off. How daily passes work
Top-ups
Add data to the same eSIM later, with no new QR code. A Daily Unlimited pass is bought for its full number of days and cannot be extended.
Buying ahead
Install any time within 180 days of purchase. For most plans the days start counting on the first connection at the destination, not at checkout.
Calls and SMS
Data only, with no phone number. Call over a messenger; a service that verifies you by SMS cannot reach this eSIM.

UAE: calls, apps and what the networks allow

The Emirates license internet calling. On a UAE SIM or hotel Wi-Fi, voice and video calls in WhatsApp and FaceTime do not connect; messages and voice notes do. The licensed alternatives are apps such as Botim and GoChat, which the other person has to install too.

A roaming eSIM is a different case. Its traffic is carried to another country before it reaches the internet — the table above says which — so it is not filtered the way a local connection is, and calls in the usual apps generally go through. Treat that as likely rather than promised: it depends on how the visited network handles roaming traffic, and it can change without notice.

Using a VPN is not illegal in itself in the UAE, but using one to get around the country's restrictions is, and the fines are large. Do not plan a trip around one. Coverage is not a concern: 5G is everywhere in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, including the metro, the malls and the road between the two cities. The eSIM carries data only, with no UAE number — a service that needs a local number for a delivery or a booking can usually take a WhatsApp message instead.

Which plan for which trip

Messengers and maps are light. Video, calls and a laptop on a hotspot are what use data up.

How to install it

  1. 01

    Check your phone

It has to take an eSIM and must not be locked to a carrier. Does your phone support eSIM?

  2. 02

    Scan the QR code

After payment the QR code is on your order page. Scan it in the phone's settings — at home, over Wi-Fi.

  3. 03

Switch it on when you land

Turn on data roaming for the esimker line. It finds the network by itself.

Frequently asked questions

› Do WhatsApp calls work in Dubai on this eSIM?

Usually yes, because the traffic leaves through another country. On a local SIM or hotel Wi-Fi they do not.

› Should I use a VPN in the UAE?

We would not. Bypassing restrictions with one is an offence there, and a roaming eSIM rarely needs it.

› Can I get a free tourist SIM at the airport instead?

Dubai airport has handed them out with a small allowance; it asks for your passport and gives you a UAE line, with the calling restrictions that come with one.
