eSIM Thailand: what you get
- Networks
- AIS 5G, DTAC 5G, True Move 4G, TrueMove H 5G
- Speed
- Up to 5G where the network has it, 4G elsewhere
- Where your traffic comes out
- Hong Kong, Singapore, or Thailand, depending on the plan. Websites see you there, wherever you actually are; streaming catalogues and apps that check your location go by that address.
- After the daily allowance
- A Daily Unlimited pass slows to 384 Kbps, 512 Kbps, or 1 Mbps until the next day. It is never cut off. How daily passes work
- Top-ups
- Most packages can be topped up — the plan card says which. A Daily Unlimited pass is bought for its full number of days and cannot be extended.
- Buying ahead
- Install any time within 180 days of purchase. For most plans the days start counting on the first connection at the destination, not at checkout.
- Calls and SMS
- Data only, with no phone number. Call over a messenger; a service that verifies you by SMS cannot reach this eSIM.
Thailand: the airport queue you can skip
A Thai SIM is registered to a person. At the counter you hand over your passport, and since August 2025 a new SIM also needs a live face scan; an operator will sell one visitor at most three. It works, and it is why the arrivals hall at Suvarnabhumi has a line in front of every operator's booth. A roaming eSIM is installed before the flight and connects when the plane lands: no passport, no scan, no queue.
The tourist SIMs at the airport run from about 300 to 700 baht for a week to a month. Compare that with the packages above rather than assume the local one is cheaper — for a short trip it usually is not.
Coverage is strong in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and along the main roads, and 5G is common in the cities. On the islands the towns and beaches are covered; the boat crossing and the island interiors are where it thins out, on every network. The eSIM carries data only. Grab, Bolt and LINE — the three apps a visitor uses daily — all register with a foreign number, so set them up at home where the confirmation SMS can reach you.
Which plan for which trip
Messengers and maps are light. Video, calls and a laptop on a hotspot are what use data up.
How to install it
- 01
Check your phone
It has to take an eSIM and must not be locked to a carrier. Does your phone support eSIM?
- 02
Scan the QR code
After payment the QR code is on your order page. Scan it in the phone's settings — at home, over Wi-Fi.
- 03
Switch it on when you land
Turn on data roaming for the esimker line. It finds the network by itself.

Frequently asked questions
› Do I need to show a passport for this eSIM?
No. Registration with a passport and a face scan applies to Thai SIM cards, not to a roaming eSIM.
› Will it work on the islands?
In the towns and on the beaches of Phuket, Samui, Phangan and Tao, yes. Expect gaps on ferries and in the hills.
› Can I use Grab without a Thai number?
Yes — register it with your own number before you leave, then it only needs data.
