eSIM South Korea: what you get
- Networks
- LG Uplus 5G, SKTelecom 5G
- Speed
- Up to 5G where the network has it, 4G elsewhere
- Where your traffic comes out
- Singapore. Websites see you there, not in the country you are visiting; streaming catalogues and apps that check your location go by that address.
- After the daily allowance
- A Daily Unlimited pass slows to 384 Kbps, 512 Kbps, or 1 Mbps until the next day. It is never cut off. How daily passes work
- Top-ups
- Add data to the same eSIM later, with no new QR code. A Daily Unlimited pass is bought for its full number of days and cannot be extended.
- Buying ahead
- Install any time within 180 days of purchase. For most plans the days start counting on the first connection at the destination, not at checkout.
- Calls and SMS
- Data only, with no phone number. Call over a messenger; a service that verifies you by SMS cannot reach this eSIM.
South Korea: Google Maps will not get you there
Korea restricts the export of its detailed map data, and for years that has left Google Maps there without walking or driving directions: it shows the map and public transport, and that is all. The government approved Google's request in February 2026, with conditions, but directions had not been confirmed in the app when this was written. Install Naver Map or KakaoMap before you land — both have an English interface, and both are what the people around you are using.
The second thing is the phone number. Much of the Korean web runs on identity verification tied to a Korean number in the holder's own name: food delivery, most online shops and the restaurant queue apps ask for it. A data-only eSIM has no number, and a tourist SIM's number often does not pass either. Plan to pay in person, let the hotel order for you, and look for the versions of the taxi and booking apps made for foreign visitors.
The network itself is among the best anywhere — fast in the subway, on the KTX and on most hiking trails. This eSIM's traffic comes out outside Korea, as the table above shows, so a Korean site may greet you as a visitor from abroad. It carries data only, with no Korean number.
Which plan for which trip
Messengers and maps are light. Video, calls and a laptop on a hotspot are what use data up.
How to install it
- 01
Check your phone
It has to take an eSIM and must not be locked to a carrier. Does your phone support eSIM?
- 02
Scan the QR code
After payment the QR code is on your order page. Scan it in the phone's settings — at home, over Wi-Fi.
- 03
Switch it on when you land
Turn on data roaming for the esimker line. It finds the network by itself.

Frequently asked questions
› Does Google Maps work in South Korea?
It shows the map and transit, but walking and driving directions have long been missing. Use Naver Map or KakaoMap, both available in English.
› Can I order delivery or shop online with this eSIM?
Often not. Many Korean apps verify identity through a Korean phone number, which a data-only eSIM does not have. Paying in person always works.
› Is there signal in the subway and on the trains?
Yes. Coverage in the Seoul subway and on the KTX is fast and continuous.
